What is Sports Counselling?
Sports counselling is a structured, athlete-centred conversation in which one athlete is supported in exploring a specific challenge or concern. The counsellor uses established counselling frameworks, active listening, and relevant personal experience to facilitate reflection, promote understanding, and guide the athlete towards identifying appropriate strategies and potential solutions.

Meet the Counsellor
Sami Latu
Hi, my name is Sami Latu. I've been a track and field athlete for over 15 years and currently compete for the Tongan National Track and Field Team and in the Stawell Gift.

I hold a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Exercise Science and a Diploma of Counselling, and am a registered member of the Australian Counselling Association.

I founded SSM Sports Counselling because, throughout my athletic journey, I was blessed with an amazing support network that allowed me to overcome the many highs and lows of sport.

My goal is to provide athletes of all levels, from elite to local with the same opportunity for support, to help them navigate challenges, enhance their performance, and find greater fulfilment in both sport and life.

Services/Sessions
My priority is to provide support that is tailored to your individual needs. If you're unsure which service is right for you, don't worry—I'll work with you to determine the most appropriate approach.
Initial Appointments
All first appointments are considered initial sessions. This is an opportunity for us to meet, establish rapport, and complete the contracting process.
For clients under 18 years of age, this process involves the participation of a parent or legal guardian.
